two chainwhips should do the trick, work off each cog one at a time.

Yeah, what ^ he said. Screwdriver shaft in the hole in the sprocket will do if you don't have two whips, and if you don't mind getting medieval on it.

Two chainwhips worked for me.
There's an article post on weightweenies about putting a staple or bit of metal on a few splines to effectively create an ABG. -

I usually just whack the cassette with the chain whip so as to spin it. One cog at a time

Worked a treat, cheers.

Thanks all, no need to get medieval.

This. Or if I don't have the chainwhip to hand, my cock. I always have my cock to hand.

What’s an ABG?

Anti Bite Guard; some alloy freehubs have a steel insert Novatec and American classic do them

Got the exact same problem with some hope hubs I bought on ebay. Along with the somewhat surprising sensation of the freehub falling off when I pulled on the cassette. (the internet tells me this is fine!) Have just ordered a second chain whip to try and sort it out.

Have you tried whacking it?

I had this problem last night. Couldn’t find my second chain whip, which I bought last time I had this problem. So I whacked it and they came loose. Whacking works.

I can get the top two cogs off
I just rested the cassette on two bits of wood then put another bit on the free hub and gave it a tap. which made it move. Sadly not enough to actually get it off though.
I can now move the rest of the cassette up and down the freehub but I can't actually get the rings off. Really annoying as the wheels are in great nick otherwise. Have ordered some chain whip pliers to try and work it off
At what point do I start complaining to the seller?

The hope freehub are quite soft and the rings bed in . A small needle file to take of the burs will help . Swap for a 540 steel one.

Whacked it out with a headset tool!
Some wheels I bought as part of a complete bike has a cassette that’s completely jammed on. It looks like the free hub is made of cheese and the cassette has bitten in and won’t budge (pic attached).
Is my only option a new free hub? And if so, can I remove the currrent one with the cassette still attached?
