• Hi,

Looking for a triple front mech for my touring bike suitable for a 44-32-22 chain set.
    It's a 30mm tube so need something like a 28.6/31.8 clamp.

    Will need to be posted.

    Cheers

    Ben

  • That 30mm diameter must be a bit of an odd size for a seat tube? I have a couple of triple front mechs but they have the larger 31.7mm clamp. I think you'll do well to find the 30 one- maybe these are more mtb specific, although you did say your bike was a tourer. If not, then I guess the larger size and a shim would do the job.

  • Hi, yeah I shouldn't have put that in the title because it's a bit misleading, have changed it now. The frame was custom made, not sure why 30mm was chosen but it caused me hassle trying to get a seat post clamp. The double mech that is currently fitted is a 28.6/31.8mm so I think it must have some shims in there. If you could send me some pictures or more details that would be great! Thanks!

  • Ok, well now something has come up, so you might want to forget about the shim business. I actually think I've dug out the ideal front mech for your needs:) This is a Suntour 'infinite band' mech. As the name suggests, this has a frame-attaching band/clamp arrangement which can accommodate various seat tube diameters. I've read that the range covers the normal 28.6mm and goes up to 31.7mm, so will obviously cover yours. Look at the below pic and you'll get the idea. And the best thing about the mech in your case is that, despite looking quite like a double mech, it actually works very well with triples. The reason I know this is that I've looked it up on the Velobase (cyclist enthusiast's website/database for bike parts etc) site and several of the bike-savvy site contributors have made it clear that the mech works with nearly all triples, so a compact one like yours shouldn't present any problems IMO. In saying this, it is quite an unusual mech so you might be put off if you wanted something more 'normal'- in this case, I do have MTB ones also I can offer you, but doing this would obviously involve the shim faff, and also these mechs have the distinctly different MTB type of design which might look too out of place on your tourer, at least that's what I'd say. I'll come up with some prices depending upon what you want.

  • Hi, I have Sachs quarz FD. maybe that would suit you?

  • All sorted now - cheers all!
