Attaching a valve to a drinks bottle and inflating it beyond failure point won't kill you, it'll just make your ears very sore. The people in the shop on either side of the workshop might also pop in to check that you're ok.
Or err...so I've heard.

For reference - 2 litre PET bottles explode at about 110psi when the valve is in the cap. As the others said, it’s LOUD when it goes!

Added a presta valve for easier inflation. If this wasn't going to kill me before, it definitely will now.
