Generally parking is free and chaotic here, as long as you don't park completely illegal you'll be fine. As there are very little no parking zones it's not that bad to find a spot.
(All that needs to change because having a car is way to cheap and easy but that's another topic.)
As for the green thing, I have friends that drove their very crusty vw T3 with polish plates all over the centre for a long time (2 years?) before they finally got stopped but then the fun was over.
There's no cameras or stuff to enforce the zone at all.

We're driving to Berlin to play a polo tournament in August, will we be ok finding a residential street to leave our car on south of tempelhof for a few days? The air BnB we have is inside the green zone and our car isn't green enough to go in.
