If the bearings are notchy, fresh grease won't change that.
The bearings are sealed.
Remove the locknuts and unscrew the ends of the axle against each other (it's in two pieces). You can then remove the axle and bosh the bearings out. Check what's written on the bearings and order replacements from the likes of simplybearings.
If you get stuck I have replacement bearings (and a track axle for that matter).

also of note, i have repaired 3 hed3 wheels now where the alloy rim has started to come unglued from the carbon- this is down to the breakdown of the adhesive and oxidisation of the materials - many of these wheels are quite old now. Please check if any part of the rim can be moved- it may appear fine but it does produce an audible click when riding.

Thanks. I removed the axle today. The bearing shields/seals have been removed so I can’t find the bearing size. (This is what made me think they were loose ball bearings).
How much would you like for bearings and axle?

I had a look over the brake track today and couldn’t see any separation and didn’t seem to move when push or pulled on. Braking surface has very little wear.

Just knocked the bearings out. The seals were still on the inside. The bearings are Enduro 6001 2RS. (I might actually have some in my parts bin).
Can I use any front track axle to convert from quick release? (I have an old Planet X track hub in the shed)
My HED3 wheel has started making a clicking/popping sound with every rotation when riding the bike.
It spins fine by hand, but if I turn the axle slowly by hand I can feel a detent in the bearings/hub. I am guessing this is the source of the clicking/popping sound.
Would repacking/greasing/replacing the bearings solve this? I've never done this before so any advice would be appreciated.
I have attached a pic of the hub. Doesn't look like sealed bearings.
