That bike is an amalgamation of every thing Jan Heine has ever recommended/marketed cobbled together. But is actually quite good surprisingly.

Thanks for the seat adjustment tips- tons better. Quick spin through the woods to forage wild greens for pesto pizza later and scout out more logs for my lamp making scam!

Looking at the picture you also might want to rotate your grips a bit to a more ergonomic position

You’d think but I’ve had them every way round and that really seems comfiest- not how they are meant to be but they seem to work!

I got an old steel beater MTB (92 Giant Boulder 500) off the side of the road, thinking of building it up for fun, the paint is pretty trashed so was thinking about just stripping the paint off and running it raw with a couple of coats of shellack for rust inhibition. Anyone stripped a frame before? I'm thinking just some paint stripper and a wire wheel?

I find paint stripper doesn't work as well as it used to - possibly modern paints are different, possibly modern stripper is feeble, either way it doesn't give a clean metal finish.
I use an angle grinder with a wire brush - having a wheel brush gets you into corners better than a cup, but either (or both!) will work without chemicals. Dust and noise are the down side...

1. Euro Legislation. Dichloromethane (active ingredient) removed. Pissed a lot of people off, but it was really nasty shit, so removed.

I have a nearly full set in mulberry. Have 4x panniers and handlebar bag. Yet to come across the saddlebag..

On those bars, I'd highly recommend Ergon GC-1 grips. Take a look and you'll see how they are designed for a bar with sweep like you have. The ones currently on the bike might be contributing to the pain and if I were a betting man I'd put £5 on that I'm right!

Looking at the two models (basic GP1 vs GC1) the main difference seems to be that they've switched the position of the clamping screw...
I'm a big fan of the Ergons and use iterations the GP1 on all my bikes with swept bars.

GC-1 are a completely different shape and designed for swept back bars - I wasn’t sure about that but running gp1 on nitto bullmoose I get some wrist pain and also find them more comfortable if I hold them at the angle the Gc1 is designed to put your wrist.

Been meaning to order a pair of gc1 to try all week but been busy - hopefully today.
