I never thought twice about it, but for your reassurance I asked a framebuilder for their opinion of my DIY chain stay crimp: TL/DR is it's not the neatest job, but the stay is plenty thick at that point so you can tell your dentist to stand down.
And it does now take a 56t 'ring!
