Avid BB7, replacing the pads. The pushy up bit wont wont walk back fully, in pic 2 I have shaken it out more and see a split ring thing - is this right?

Shouldnt pop out that way if the red adjuster is still there as there's supposed to have a nut securing the 'piston' in place.

the nut seems to still be in place, i'll try disassembling and cleaning
