I did the Bentley 12 the first two years it ran (2014&5) unsupported and used the official food station.
It worked well. The first year was better as they had my stuff on a table. The second year I had to bend down to pick it up.
My strategy is to carry more bottles to minimise stopped time. So I carried 4litres aiming for one stop.
I'd do the same again if I rode it again
