I only used the official feed zone once to grab some flapjack. Not sure why, I might have dropped a gel that lap. Sounds like it should be fine though.
That's what I did, drink a bottle per lap + one spare for when you drop one (you will). Test your bottle setup well in advance - I found Specialized Purists stayed in my holders (Elite) better than any other. Still lost four from my BTA mount though, mostly in the runup to roundabouts where I was sat up.
I had a one of these which fits about 4 gels, plus 2 up each skinsuit leg. I stopped for 2 minutes or so around 4 and 8 hours to completely refill food, easier than faffing around with gels taped to bottles IMO but obviously you lose a few miles. Gives you the opportunity to grab some normal food to which you'll probably want after a while.

I've not lost or dropped a single bottle since my first Nat 24 when I had SIS 750ml bottles in Profile holder. I use an Elite cage and either PRO with random cage or my Adamo-specific Xlab saddle cage. Maybe you're just clumsy :P
I've got one of those XLab top tube bags. Doesn't hold as much as some of my others but it's sleek and I also use the Shiv-specific frame box thingie to hold phone and gels.
Hoping for a bit of advice for the upcoming National 12hr TT which I plan on entering. It's on the bumpy Bentley course - H12H/8
@umop3pisdn - I will PM you for some specific questions if that's ok? I know you rode and wrote about it last year.
Main Questions -
I will have support from hours 4 -12. I was going to leave all my stuff at the Hen and Chickens Pub for them, but before that, I was going to label up bottles and have them at the official feed zone. Is this a bad idea or will it work ok?
I plan on having one bottle BTA that I swap each 20 mile lap, plus a backup bottle in a rear cage, just in case I miss one or need extra. Is there a go to BTA mount? I was planning on making my own if not.
Although I will tape food to bottles, I want a backup so planned on having a top tube bento box with backup gels, chews etc. Is there a good one out there? I have a narrow, quite pointed top tube so this one will prob not stay put. It also has poor reviews.
Will prob think of loads more questions, but that's it for now!
