  • Marvelling at teh wonder of nature

  • woop woop

:) back home now, bike still in one bit (some drama after we left main group at tea shack)

Will spam the thread in a bit........ only consumed about 6ltr's of fluid today....... hot hot hot unlike the crisp white wine i just pulled from the fridge.

Ace day out, need new bike parts now :)

  • some drama after we left main group at tea shack

    Uh oh....

  • Badger group updated

  • Highspeed outbound from Ashford International. All clean and shiny, 1x500ml bottle and 1x2ltr camelback.

Plan was to chop over from Stratford to Hackney and then straight up to Chingford.
Platform was closed for that one.......
So stumbled onto the central line and chopped up to Buckhurst hill.

  • The large frothy coffee I had worked it's magic on my insides and on arriving at Buckhurst I need a toilet, empty station, empty platform, only 2 things I can lock to and I got told off for that.
Also got told off for popping a wheelie (not while riding) and going through the standard turnstiles/gate at station, decide not to stair bomb and get urban rad.

Made it to Chingford very very very early, about 9'ish.
Second learning curve coming up..... number one being have never travelled on train with Beik before, there are many rules as it turns out.
So coming from the Shires and dial up and half day shop hours and Draconian rules for Sunday trading I was most surprised to find a local bakers all open as if it was a normal Monday.

Church chimes in Chingford are most pleasant.

  • Bodged drivechain to go from 18x42 to 22x42, this required adding a bit to chain........

    Chain.
    Need a new one now.
    Maybe a chainring too.
Seatpost Q/R would be handy for the more downhilly technical bits.

  • Massive props to @853Superfly for coming over. Come again (with a new chain)!

Cheers pete as usual for the navigation and encouragement.

Cheers everyone else for being tubular.

  • encouragement

lol "Will you lot hurry up?!"

  • Mashton arrived first with a Pink Missile and shady brakes and a fab MG B.

he borrowed my lock to search for coffee.

We went and looked at fab MG B (been looking at Midgets but impractical, I am getting boring)

    Others arrived on train.
I chanced the station looking for toilet again as I have just topped off my camelback with 1.5lts of water. Got in, couldn't get out, in trouble again.... was let out of station to the confusion of others as my bike was locked up outside.

DBAD and dual pivots and mud, Disc brakes work better :)
Only scooped 2xmudballs from the calipers and brakes did rather well, unlike Mashers canti's.
    Where was Amey ?

  • The Indra award for the 'most inappropriate bike' has to be shared between @853Superfly & @mashton this time. Ten rad points to you both.

  • My tyre choice was regarded as Brave, sure I heard a sharp intake of breath as well, and my PSI was 60'ish at back and 50'ish up front and a ratio around 54"

No flats, several pucker up chocolate starfish moments on the big fuck off roots covered in mud with saddle set rather high.
I still (somehow) have both nuts still attached.

The engine was better on the Pink Missile, but it dropped me going uphill, I have several excuses for this :)

  • Also.

    Slack Chain.

    but intact.......

  • @BareNecessities

I ain't got to the "issues" when we left the pack. Not sure if Rad actually means foolhardy/dangerous :)

  • Pond Life.
    What survived :)

Millions of them, be ace in a few months, pond will be crawling with frogs.

  • I opted to bail out early with 3 others.

I had gone through loads of fluids and was struggling with the heat.

We separated at the tea shack.

Up to this point my chain had jumped twice.

    It jumped again, under power.
    A quick fix off again.

Pass a rad-dad with baby buggy in tow in cloud of dust and caning it back uphill.

    Chain jumps again.
Chain is fucked but still intact, work out that I can't power off.
Quick chat and directions and we set off, others are on tight time scales.
    Chain jumps again.....
    The cult of Surly,
Krampus gives Steamroller a push along.
    I stop, send him on.
    Reset chain.
Ride off, catch others up, stay with them, blow chain off again. Reset it, catch others again and pretty much stay with them to the station.
The joy of skinny race light fast tyres.
Make it to the station, recover lock I ditched and make it back to Hackney, then onto Stratford international.

Thank you for the helps chaps and directions.

  • Great ride, thanks Pete, even if you did make fun of me puffing ;)

  • Had a look at chain while waiting at Stratford.
I have a few miles to ride still..... will it survive.
