  • Isle of Wight is a good shout - I grew up there and my parents still live there. Took my bike back last Christmas and the roads were dead, no wind, wasn't too cold:

  • Seconded, the round-the-island route is awesome and well signposted too. Some really amazing roads.

  • Has anyone done Lands End -> Bristol? A friend is doing a charity ride next year and has asked if I want to get involved. It sounds like it’s a supported ride with some sort of accommodation - 4 days. Looks like it would be a nice route.

  • As its about 200 miles, I guess its more of a social thing? I wouldn't overthink it

  • I’m after some advice for our first micro adventure, probably Sunday and Monday.
We’d like to get out of London by train and do about 50km each day (bad knee must heal before thinking about going further).

There are some cool AirBnb around, kind of tents, huts and the like. We would probably do something like this since we don’t have camping gear.

Looking at a map, so many options... bonus points for coastal rides.

    Thanks for tips :)

  • Scotland looks epic.
Especially after watch this raphaesque video.

  • It’s not it’s terrible, really crowded and everyone’s really hostile.

    Stay away everyone.

  • Crask Inn! I'm staying there in three weeks. Will (hopefully) be 13 days into a 14 day LEJOG ride. According to the film, the sun does sometimes shine in Scotland. Fingers crossed.

  • Make sure you tell us all about it.

  • How about doing a bit for Salisbury? You can hit the new forest,Salisbury plain and Stonehenge over 2 days. Train from Waterloo and I bet you’d get a great welcome...
Another option would be Weymouth or Dorchester. The rides around studland are awesome. You’ve Corfe Castle and great rides to lulworth cove. Not easy on the knees though.

  • Will do. Hopefully with pics and Strava links if technology behaves. Just been to Decathlon to buy some plastic cutlery and an inflatable pillow = Very excited now.

  • Take the train to Windsor and ride to Salisbury. It's about 120km, mostly rolling until you get closer in. I stayed at an air BnB there earlier this month. It's a great destination. Easy to spilt into a 2 day ride if you want. I can send you a route if you want.

  • oh yes please!

  • http://cycle.travel/map/journey/11695 this was the route I took about a week ago.
Train from Clapham Junction to Windsor and Eton Riverside, about £11 off peak.
Lunch at the George and Dragon in Swallowfield, then on. There are loads of places to stop and it's very low levels of traffic. Wokingham is a bit shit, but everything else is single track roads.

  • Inspired by this article I saw on The Guardian website I rode the route they called The Dart Circular today.
It was a really lovely route, lots of climbs meant there were some really stunning views (helped that the weather was so good). Getting the ferry across the dart half way round the route was fun too.

  • Any other suggestions anyone? Carnforth https://redbankfarm.co.uk ride
    from Lancaster

Wales http://www.graigwen.co.uk/camping-3/ over the estuary from
Barmouth we rode from Ffestiniog via Harlech but you could choose to
go from a few different stations nearby.

This was a top suggestion. We did Bangor to Graig Wen then next day from Graig Wen to Machynlleth and got the train home from there. Amazing trip thanks!

  • Sounds great. I've just bought that book, looking forward to trying a few this summer

  • No worries, glad you enjoyed. P.s. the big blue tent you donated us had its first 2018 outing a couple of weekends back, still solid.

  • Brilliant! I'm really pleased we saved that tent. Would have been a right shame to bin it.

  • Cool, give me a shout if you're in the west country and fancy a ride :)

  • Nice one. I live in Bristol, so always in the West country! Altho obvs Cornwall etc is still miles away

  • Hiya,

Looking for a Thule rack with or without panniers, to mount on my road bike which, sadly, does not have eyelets. Preferably in London...
If you're not a seller, maybe I could borrow it for the weekend?

    Many thanks

  • Might not be what you are asking, but I use rubber-lined p-clips to mimic eyelets with a standard rack. Cheap and sturdy if you don't carry too much weight. Just need to buy the right size.

  • Oh that sounds like an idea - which rack do you have then?

  • Alpkit one, but would work with most racks. I bought these. I just put a layer of tape on the frame where the p-clips go first. Try to put them where there will be least slippage.
