SSD caddies, I need two... I can get a USB 3.1 jobbie for only AU$19, it'll slot straight into the MBPs USB-C ports so looks ideal... What am I missing?

Second one. 15 might change more but not until next year.

A bit of speed. But nothing else. I have a £15 quid one, it’s fine.

The new 8th gen Intel chips are a a considerable step up from previous generations. No idea when Apple are planning to introduce them though.

There was chat of it being during WWDC but i think the supply chain confirmed that the new Air was pushed to September so maybe this is the case for the MBP too.
I'm hoping for an iPad Pro w/ the same edge to edge design of the iPhone X.
I don't need it for more than web / email and a few work apps so could get rid of the MacBook altogether. -

Annoyed at myself for not realising I needed a TB1 > TB3 adaptor... I was in the Apple Store earlier, could be playing with the new toy RIGHT NOW!!
PS Don't wanna hear about faster chipsets atm... 😭

I think I bought an iPhone 6 the day before the iPhone 7 was released or something

Desk still untidy, software updates downloading then I'll move my backup across... Looking good so far...
I had to ride my Brompton halfway across the outback to find a fucking TB2>TB3 adaptor tho'... With a cold! Let's hope it's worth it... Annoyingly, the old monitor is a little bit brighter than the newer one...

Snoopy approves though.

Make sure you get one with UASP support. It makes a real difference to read/write speed and is much better if you ever need to boot from it.
They're still cheap – the one I have at work is some Inateck thing that cost about a tenner.

Space grey is the sex
Just imagine they would actually do a black fucking laptop again!

Or just one version of space grey instead of the three or four they have floating around under that name.

Having no luck migrating my stuff over from Time Machine, took everything bar my admin account the first time which I wasn't happy with so did a full clone of my old startup disk instead and then I couldn't log in... Bloody weird, will lick the problem tomorrow, it's bedtime here...
I seem to remember having problems the last time I had to do this so I just manually copied everything over like documents folder etc from TM... Ugh!

Think I might have to pull a Slain and
walk my biek everyw....buy a space grey.My old 2015 retina USB connection seems to be fubared.
I'm connecting a device that doesn't (or shouldn't) draw any power but it's saying "usb ports disabled. a device is drawing too much power blah". I've tried resetting the SMC but without luck. I changed the cable and tbh that seems to have worked for the past few hours but not sure i want to risk it and more importantly, space grey.

I need to find my lovely in-laws a 15 inch retina MacBook Pro, with an SSD and enough RAM, and proper ports instead of Thunderbird 3 or whatever it is. Budget is about a grand. Can it be done? What model numbers should I look out for? And any trusted suppliers?

• #12770
I have one of these, it's ridiculously fast at everything - video editing, 3D graphics, compiling, you name it - would highly recommend this model.
deleted pic as it showed serial - thanks dude!

Thanks. Looking at a couple now on Hoxton Macs. They are good prices.
Which is a better buy? 2.3GHz with 16Gb or 2.6GHz with 8Gb? It's not going into the hands of power-users
-
• #12772
Not a power user? Anything will do... this i7 HQ's are still decent chips...
-
• #12773
Between those two if they were the same price and storage, I'd go with the 2.3/16. Do they both have SSDs? That should be the main requirement... Had to help a mate out with his old MBP which still has spinning rust and fuck me it was like pulling teeth waiting for anything to load.

This.
SSD>GHZ
RAM > GHZAnyone got an El Cap dmg kicking about? I deleted all my old dmg's foolishly and I cant DL anymore...
-
• #12775
So because I had two SSDs in the old MBP, system and apps on one and my home folder on the other, this means I can't do a proper migration of all my stuff until I rip the SSD out of the rotting corpse of my A1286... It's all encrypted on the Time Machine backup so I can't get to it, need the password protected SSD from the machine to get this thing happening... This is booooooring...
If I bought one now, would I be buying something that's due a massive overhaul, or is it just incremental chip updates?
