What time is it? Watches and horology

There’s a notch in the middle of the canon pinion; get your tweezers in that notch and lever the canon pinion away from the base plate without flinging it across the room.

Sorry to be a pain, but I can't see the notch... I tried removing the adjacent pinion with the flat sprung plate over it hoping it would reveal done notch but no luck...

Exactly that. Those tweezers photographed are in the “notch” which I was trying to describe.
(It’s this notch which provides the clutch friction against the centre wheel for adjusting the hands).

Also, while you have the dial off like that, fit and remove the stem, and understand how the bolt screw secured the stem in place by drawing the “pull out piece” or “bolt” into the slot cut in the stem.

While the stem is fitted, move it between positions and observe how the castle wheel flicks back and forth to allow setting the hands or winding.

So that "notch" was actually quite obvious but somehow I thought it would be something else... And friction / brute force was the way. Managed to not throw anything across the room! Gonna be fun when I need to put that back with reverse brute force...
Will look at the stem as advised, had already removed it and put it back but never studied closely.

the 79220N was only produced for about 5 months. Rose logo is becoming very sought after, I'm going to regret selling this one I think

I'd never noticed that my two Tudors had different symbols, will have to look at my Black Bay Black again. I bought mine towards the end of their brief life and they were getting pretty difficult to find at that point.

I think the price going up on them is a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy though. Everyone said they would so people are now selling them for more.

I was taken with this JLC as a present for the missus - repainted dial at some point but I like it all the same. Best place to take it for a service when it lands?

So they only made those for five months...perhaps sold 10,000 of them? Since then, how many other Tudor models have been released that have low manufacturer numbers? I wouldn't be shocked if the ~50 or so Black Bay variations all had very low production numbers...

So here's the argument for Tudor's strategy - we don't have to agree and I'm not predicting how prices will pan out but I do believe the following:

If you solely want to think about market value as a feature of supply and demand, what typically happens with watches is that scarcity and entropy are the main factors that drive up value. But Tudor have and continue to really nail the demand side of things - I would argue that they've created a whole new segment in luxury watches. Tudor is absolutely destroying it in terms of market positioning as a very accessible luxury watch - younger people who want authentic quality but don't want to be associated with the Rolex brand (which is moving both upmarket and downmarket at the same time) or pay Rolex prices. Some of these younger buyers will move in to "vintage". For Tudor the myriad of new BB models are testament to their constantly testing the market and the 79220N is the watch that pretty much started it. That they can pull off this kind of marketing or choose Lady Gaga and David Beckham as "watch ambassadors" also supports this.

I assume that purchasers are also buying into the same thing. It's clearly working.

yup, you can’t ignore demand-side economics, or even just plain demand. But I guess what I’m saying is that there’s more to demand for Tudor than just hype (ie. price goes up = demand goes up), instead they have introduced a whole new group of people to the watch market, and this doesn’t go against normal rules of demand, so IMO demand is still negatively correlated to price.

I see what you are saying. I think I have a an overly simplistic view of what what makes a watch desirable.

For me, when people say that a watch is rare, I think one of fifty, or one of one hundred pieces. Not something sold by a major brand for 5 months. That is a quirk of my values though I guess.
