They are only part of the answer in any case, even a 'good' one will give you odd readings in some walls. Wiring should be less of a problem these days as part P has been around for a while, studs you can find by knocking and some people use little neodiddleum (sic) magnets to find the nails/screws then work it out from there. I use a bore inspection camera a lot for the more complicated stuff, you usually find a small way in or make one if you have to. Pipes are what you need to look out for, those bastards can really mess your day up.
Any suggestions for a decent stud/wiring detector? My current one is shit. Also, preferably something where I don't have to look up the instruction manual each time I use it (which is generally months apart). Cheers
