Just for lols I’ll bite: aside from GPU (which I’ve already spec’d as an eGPU) and retina display (which he has) what is materially better on a 2018 MBP than a 2014 Mini? TB3, okay (can he afford any TB3 peripherals?) but apart from that I doubt you or I would notice the processor improvement or the faster SSD bus. I still think they’re great little boxes as a temporary solution and he’ll have a backup machine when he upgrades.
Hmmm see what you are saying.... but... egpu's are not supported over TB2, sure there are scripts but who knows when Apple might decide to kill the work arounds.
I do like the minis but near half a decade old machine? Nah.
