  • My whisky auction is now over, Macallan sold for £2605 which I'm happy with, Auchantoshan for £60 and thought it would have done a little more, SMWS went for £61 which is as expected

  • Good price for the Macallan, supposedly the Chinese are a big fan of that particular house, which explains a lot!

  • Just had confirmation from auction house. I was expecting all sorts of charges to be deducted from my total but not so. The total deductions from my 4 lots were a paltry £28.38 which is an amazing deal. More money in my pocket... When I dropped the whisky at the auction house their eyes lit up telling me they had at least two clients looking for that particular bottle, so that probably helped

  • Bloody hell, that's better than ebay, lol, good effort!

  • I'm at a Bourbon fest as a complete newb... owt I should look out for?

    This one https://www.bourbonbrothers.co.uk/events

  • Delighted with the auction site I used which was https://www.just-whisky.co.uk Payment directly into my bank in 10 days (they guarantee payment within 21 days) Great company to deal with, answer emails very quickly and no rip-off extortionate fees so very happy to recommend them if you're looking to sell whisky

  • cleaning out the booze cupboard

this likely to be delicious/worth anything?

  • Dunno about worth, but I've never had a bad dram from Campbeltown.

  • I like Campbeltown whiskies but I once had a bottle of Glen Scotia that tasted like somebody had pissed into the vat. Did some checking, seems a lot of people had the same reaction. Threw it away.

  • Someone just beat me to it :(

  • suggestions please, cousins and I finished all my whisky last night

I had a Dalwhinnie Winter's Gold, a Laphroaig quarter cask and a Monkey shoulder triple cask. want to get 3 bottles that are slightly different, but good and not too expensive c.£30-50 per bottle let's say.

What's some good suggestions? one needs to be peaty.

  • Benromach 10 should be one

  • Winter's Gold is one of my favs. Finished my Xmas bottle and I followed it with a Strathisla 12yr old which I enjoyed a lot and have just opened a Welsh Pederyn which on fist taste is quite pear drop with tobacco. Both from supermarkets so at the low end of your price range.

  • Wild Turkey in Tesco just now £16 perfect for my growing addiction to Manhattans

  • thanks for suggestions. did a bit of reading and think I might restock with Benromach, Strathisla and a Lagavulin 16 for the peatz. not a huge drinker, so as long as the cousins don't come by, this should last me for ages, last 3 bottle restock was in November..

  • Ditch the Strathisla and get Green Spot or Redbreast 12 and you'll be golden (and you get a bit of Irish variety).

  • or that! I'll give it a look

    Thanks all

  • Winter's Gold is one of my favs

lovely isn't it. it was a gift, and it was the giftor's dad's favourite too.

  • Has anyone had a go on the Shackleton blend that's out?

  • Was just about to recommend a Lagavulin 16 for the peaty bottle.

There has been a glitch in the matrix tonight, as earlier I opened a bottle!

  • nice! I'm excited to try it

  • Lagavulin 16 is unpeatable

    ahem
