It's too much of a hassle dealing with the global stock shortage?!
I sent mine back to Garmin for replacement end of March, I'm being quoted early June. Now trying to work out what I can afford as a stopgap in the meantime..such a pain.

I sent mine back to Garmin for replacement
why?

Had a spill, seemed to work fine afterward for a week or so and then the pedal in question just stopped reading anything. They are replacing it as it's not clear whether from the crash or something else.
Not having power for training/racing is a real pain in the arse, holding out for a cheap 4iii or similar on eBay to see me through to the summer.

Powertap g3 free hub replacement, do I just get a replacement direct or go for a Novatech freehub?
I like the novatech anti bite guard hubs, and I believe novatech manufacture the powertap hubs (except the GS DT Swiss variant) -

Quarq do 165mm BB30 cranks in 110bcd (4-bolt definitely, but 5 bolt?).
Any reason not to try a Quarq unit over my current Rotor + P2M setup?
I know zero about Quarq although they seem to be reviewed as 'ok' by most people with them. -

I’ve been very happy with my Quarq, like the power2max it just works and seems to provide consistent values. No issues with dropping values or spikes either.

Ta
Which model do you have? What battery style is it? Can you swap crank arms like with Rotor? -
• #8769
I’ve got the Red version, it’s a coin cell battery, can’t remember which type exactly but a common one.
I’ve not removed the cranks, from the spider, but it is easily done.

I had a quarq cinqo which I guess is a fairly old model now. It stopped working when it was just out of warranty (and this was just after quarq were bought by sram I think?). They had no interest in helping- no serviceable parts, therefore replacement only thank you and best they’d do was a 10% discount on a new pm.
That said, it was faultless while it worked and the same could happen with any pm I guess.

I had a Riken which died just before the 2 year warranty expired. Quarq replaced the spider with another Riken unit. That died 18 months later, but Quarq replaced it under warranty. Then it got stolen because @Cycliste left my rather nice road bike unlocked in a communal bike store in her block of flats for local enough for it to be nicked.
tl;dr they're not as reliable as P2M but the customer service is good.

Any could fail, true but at least I could service my SRM or PT. Not sure about P2M - pretty sure Germany will service them though.
-
• #8773
Hmm, doesn't sound great. I'd rather squeaky but reliable.
-
• #8774
Yeah, I think for all powermeters, service within warranty tend to be very good (Garmin excepted...). The thing is, they’re expensive products and the warranties tend to be short - does anyone offer more than two years? And, broadly they’re not very reliable, hence all the reported issues and “reports of great service”
The real question is what happens when problems arise outside the warranty period.

I'd rather squeaky but reliable.
You can keep your P2M reliability and eliminate the flaky Rotor spider mount by getting SRAM cranks (e.g. Force 22 comes in 165mm BB30) and the matching P2M power unit.
