Pretty sure you should chat to @IR who I think is there now and just bought the vr4 above. Any old turbo subie will be thrashed but probably fine. Look for wobbly crank pulley, leaky oily left rear head and check for evidence of previous coolant leaks. Also clutches, gearboxes and drive shafts are kind of like fuses so stay away from any with big boost mods.

Where in NZ are you moving to? I'm out in Marlborough at the moment. With any scooby just make sure the cambelt and waterpump has been done by the 160k km mark, headgaskets are something to look out for on the turbo models too. There are plenty of cheap turbo and non turbo ones out here if you don't mind an automatic. I was torn between b4 legacy and the legnum but I went for the legnum just because they're a little quirky.
Moving to NZ in a month's time and looking to get an old (~150K km) Legacy...just 'cos it seems the be the right thing to have there and I've always fancied one. What should I look out for mechanically? Turbo or n/a best at that sort of age? Not too bothered about performance, just something to bung the bikes/kayaks on the roof and get around....
