  • But GX 11 speed says X actuation right. Not the same as exact actuation?

  • Yeah it's fucking stupid, X-Actuation is different to Exact Actuation even though the name is almost the same. You need either a 10-speed MTB derailleur or 10/11-speed road derailleur. That 2x10 GX will be fine, it's just a question of whether or not you want that X-Horizon shit - I wouldn't bother with it to be honest, just limits your options down the line if you decide to switch to a front derailleur. But the performance might be ever so slightly better for 1x with X-Horizon.

  • SRAM's reasoning

All they've done is to revert to the Lucien Juy pattern, which always worked as long as you matched the pulley cage geometry to the cassette slope and didn't mess it up by using more than one chain ring. The Suntour slant parallelogram copes well with multiple chainrings but the parallelogram slant has to match the cassette slope, which starts to become difficult when the ratio of biggest sprocket to smallest becomes as large as it is on these modern 1×11 and 1×12 systems.

  • So is there any advantage to the 1x cage over the normal cage? It doesn't seem to be worth losing flexibility in front ring(s) just to prevent ghost shifting

  • @Vince @Scilly.Suffolk @mdcc_tester

Can confirm that (my) Modolo QT-EXE brake levers take Shimano cables. The Campag ones that Scilly kindly sent have "necks" that are too long. By neck, I mean the bit of metal that's not the cable, but thinner than the round head. In both cases (Shimano and Campag) the head sits outside the cable hole, rather than slotting into a recess.

    Thanks for reading this far.

  • So is there any advantage to the 1x cage over the normal cage?

Depends which cassette you're using. I'd stick with the old 2×10 RD if your biggest sprocket is 36T

  • Oh good point, the 1× ones are rated up to 42T. I've bodged an 11-42T in a 36T SRAM 10-speed derailleur before though, they come with really long B-screws.

I will leave it @PhilDAS to decide, if you want that GX 2×10 I won't bid on it

  • they come with really long B-screws

If you use the B-screw to bodge it onto the 42, you end up with the pulley miles away from the 11 and your shifts at the top end are shite. Any particular RD can only ever be optimally aligned to one cassette range

  • you end up with the pulley miles away from the 11 and your shifts at the top end are shite

Not a problem when you're as slow as me. My 11t is almost decorative.

  • has anyone on the forum taken the headbadge off of an All City frame?
How difficult/frustrating a task am I looking at here

  • Coming up to London (midweek) in August for 2 nights for brother's wedding (Marylebone area).
Any recommendations for the best budget accommodation for 2 adults 12 yr old, 2 yr old and 6 month old.
We can't afford £200 for a Travelodge - are we basically dreaming thinking we may find (more) comfortable accommodation for less than £200?

    Cheers

  • Bags- I'd like a messenger style bag but in a portrait rather than landscape orientation, if that makes sense, anyone got a recommendation?

  • Yep, like the second one, large enough for a 13" MBP and a bunch of other stuff (for e.g. headphones, washbag, book(s) and powerbank, as my carry-on bag.

  • Another question - I have an AMEX card to put work expenses on, it works well for this. It's a gold charge-card, and I pay an annual fee for it.

AMEX keep nagging me to upgrade to a platinum version of the same card, for an additional £300 fee per year on top of the existing charge - personally I can't see why I'd do this, but clearly some people do. What am I missing?

  • Hoping lfgss can answer this I saw today...

  • What am I missing?

Amex look after you more with the Platinum. Loads of travel perks too IIRC.

  • I travel a lot, so this is potentially interesting - have you experienced these perks?

  • @Aroogah had one IIRC

I don’t travel enough to warrant one.

  • What am I missing?

It's reassuring to know that you can shoe-horn "platinum card" into the FBNPA thread (for e.g.), when you're worried you might have overplayed "executive lounge" or "hot nuts" (for e.g.)?

  • Nope, that’s impenetrable

  • Impenetrable for e.g. how?

  • You'll be missing £300 badum tish

  • Stay in High Wycombe travel Lodge & get the train to Marylebone

  • Ooo, now there's an idea.
May well do that; will put it to the 'gang' and work out times/train cost etc.
    Many thanks
