  • Another question - I have an AMEX card to put work expenses on, it works well for this. It's a gold charge-card, and I pay an annual fee for it.

AMEX keep nagging me to upgrade to a platinum version of the same card, for an additional £300 fee per year on top of the existing charge - personally I can't see why I'd do this, but clearly some people do. What am I missing?

  • What am I missing?

Amex look after you more with the Platinum. Loads of travel perks too IIRC.

  • What am I missing?

It's reassuring to know that you can shoe-horn "platinum card" into the FBNPA thread (for e.g.), when you're worried you might have overplayed "executive lounge" or "hot nuts" (for e.g.)?

  • You'll be missing £300 badum tish

  • I've got the amex business platinum card.

The main additional benefit is airport lounge access.

I'm an independent contractor with my own limited company. I tend to do a lot of international travel where I'm dependent on the clients choice of airline / travel class.

In my circumstances I consider it a worthwhile business expense to make long haul economy flights slightly more bearable.
