So I had some 27.5 x 1.95” tyres delivered this week for my Kepler and it’s a very tight squeeze.
It doesn’t rub per se, but there’s not much clearance for mud at the chain stays.
Anyone had any experience of crimping an already crimped stay, wouldn’t need to be much, would just prefer a few extra mm.

well it only owes me £170 delivered, I always wanted a chromed triangle bike when I was a kid, and this is soooo different. I might look at Tiagra yet. Thing is (and I know it's impossible of course) - but think I have too many bikes. I'm kind of thinking the Perks TT is hideously impractical, but then its so beautiful. My Tecnos is something I always wanted and in pretty lovely condition, and the Ron Cooper is just British artisan craftsmanship at its best... I'd struggle to sell one as I'm just emotionally connected to the things... not like that American on Channel 4 that shoves his junk up classic car exhaust pipes, you'll be relieved to know...

Just been putting this together. Used to ride a lot of trials, and always lusted after a mk1 justice, as the geometry is just so fun, and suits the style of riding I like to do. This one came up cheap, and in remarkable condition, with a reasonable spec, so I had to have it. Bought a new front wheel with a hope xc hub, to match the rear, so I can run a front disc. Also bought a wide-base surly single sprocket, to convert to ss. Stuck an old hope headset in too, and fitted some carbon renthal bars, that i had lying around. Also new tyres, hs33 pads and hoses etc. Needs some more work, including making a chain tensioner and a carbon fibre saddle, as the original plastic one was missing, unfortunately.
(Excuse the shadow in the 'before' photo, it's from the guy I bought it from)

Hi all spoke to the guy that sold me the lovely Fanini. He's actually returned it being a purist, to the original brand to match the pantographs on the fork and seat stays...
"I bought this frame from a contact in Italy and it was badged Pogliaghi. It had original yellow decals on original black paintwork. No decal was present re. tubing. I took a guess in a hurry when I decided to sell it, but we now believe that it is Columbus SL. We also know now that Fanini did in fact produce frames for a while for other companies and that included Pogliaghi - why, we don't know! "
Isn't that a great story?

Couldn’t do me a huge favour and measure the axle to crown distance on the fork?

That's a really lovely frame, nice find. I'd echo what everyone has said about keeping it simple, i recently abandoned my few design principles to try and "jazz up" a build and anything that wasn't black just looked shit. Black doesn't mean plain though and i'm sure a flite with yellow lettering and some nicely textured/detailed thin black bar tape would really look nice. Have a look at the wheels on my CAAD, handbuilt, DCR laced to Kinlin's, cost less than a new set Ksyrium's and look/ride so much nicer IMO. If you can do Tiagra really cheap i'd say go for it but i've seen 105 go on here for cheaps and my Ultegra has cost me very little picking up bits here and there in sales.
If your after some cheap bits to get you rolling i've a nice black quill and period looking carbon post that might suit.

Cheers. I'm really pleased with it, it's going to be a great bike. I'll have a look at your wheels. I have a bit of a weak spot for 105, as back in the day it's what I did so much mileage on. In terms of the crabon and the stem, yes I'd love to take you up on those, as technically theres no budget for this! - its was going to be done slowly. I noticed tonight the lugs are panto too, I'd love to know where it's been in its life...

This road was one of the best I've been on in Japan. West to East is what I did and it's just rural japanese alps at their finest. (Photos)
Closer to Tokyo the small road from Kosuge to near Kami Otsuke is very nice too.

I find myself looking at Trials bikes from time to time. I think 90s era trials is quite unfashionable since Danny Mackaskill got famous. So there are some really cheap Onzas and the like. Still want one despite having no time to ride it, knackered wrists and officially being old.

Got this today, precut, which gets neatly around the how do I saw carbon thing without dying. Tried a post in, but got so far and hit the fluted section of the seat tube on the fanini, hence the clown position in the previous pic. £15 posted. Will be debadged naturally... PS new addition. Beans for the rest of the month but just had to...

Sorry to spoil the party then :/ it‘s still a very nice frame. Various framebuilders used profiled Columbus SL tubes. The Colnago Tecnos uses OS tubes, the ones on the Fanini look like non-OS. Good luck with the decision on the parts. I‘m facing a similar decision atm. I think the cheapest neo retro option is the 10-speed tiagra 4700 (~290€) with the added benefit that you don‘t have to get wheels with 11speed compatible hubs.
