I may need to commute by car for the first time in my life, a 964 is a sensible choice for this right?

Entirely sensible. Just needs a full rebuild first.

More than that, I'd say it is the only choice.

Hopefully the seat and steering wheel mods provide a comfy driving position then.

Putative 964 would be lhd, so a whole new world of fit possibilities

I'm confused.
What's the 996 and Mercedes for?
Or is this in the US? In which case route, road and traffic conditions will dictate the car.
Someone I know worked in OC, California and had a convertible for their stay... even there pollution and congestion meant they could never put the roof down.
In New York the roads are brutal, and almost every car is damaged, so an old Hilx or Outback would be my choice.
My defining criteria would include, air con, cruise control... and probably excellent safety give how poorly people drive.
As an investment it would be good as iirc if you own the car for >1yr you'll be able to import it back to the UK without paying tax. Then a weak £ should offer plenty of € buyers.

A Brit living and working in the USA should drive a Jaguar or an Aston Martin and cultivate a posh RP accent. Neil's already good on the latter.

I gather from the seat adjustments on the 996 that Dammit's pretty tall. Something comically small and classic like a Mini or an MG Midget could work.

Oh, and because it's not in the UK the red trousers that he wants but is afraid to be seen in can be replaced with a linen suit and a white shirt.

Perhaps it's in Italy, and he could get a Nuova 500?

I did London to Amalfi last year. We went to Dunkirk then through Belgium, Lux, bit of france, Switzerland, Italy. That missed a lot of tolls and didn't take much longer. We did Milan to London in a day (all be it a long one with the wind behind us)

Vague possibility at the moment, but it'd be California

I had a recurring issue very similar on my Elan. It took ages to find the problem but it turned out to be a very small kink in the fuel line under the tank. It was just enough to restrict fuel enough to cause it to die as soon as it got hot enough.

Take the opportunity to buy something that you wouldn't be able to enjoy in the UK. Something old or something wild like a corvette.

Make every commute a tribute to 'Wayne's World' with an AMC Pacer.

That would be my thought too.
Comfy muscle car with a boot big enough for a bike or skis. Distances are big and for all the twistys you see on vlogs, something that eats up the miles and can sit in a traffic jam, or be set to 55mph on the cruise control will deliver more enjoyment irl.
Or a big V8 truck like a Raptor or Silverado.

Anything in urban California needs to be Automatic. Traffic is too much of a shit show on a frequent basis to make a manual tolerable for anything other than occasional use.
If I had a choice of just one vehicle, it would be a highly optioned Toyota Tacoma or something similar. Does everything and you can dump all the toys in the back.
On the car front, I wouldn't bother with a convertible. In So-Cal it's too hot for them to be comfortable for most of the year and the tops get beaten by the dry heat and sun.

Watching a video of this when it was on Youtube (for some reason it's not on Icon's channel anymore) had me feeling all types of ways for an ex-police Caprice or Crown Victoria.

Tesla?

It's very much idle speculation at the moment, I've had one of the first four initial interviews.

Cunts. If I had have moved forwards, I would have been on top of the car parked in front. If I had have moved backwards, I would be blocking a driveway with a dropped kerb. This is a public street without dedicated parking so YOU think of others, cunt.

In fairness, all the other cars fucked off so it looked like I had abandoned it. But still.
Yep I've spent a lot of time watching that video. Wish Chris Harris was still producing his own content.
