  • I have the SP version of what you're wanting.

Maybe that's why everyone says SON are more durable, because they don't actually make the hub that requires the smallest bearings...

  • Guess I was worried about the bearings getting worn, as they're not as easily replaceable. But you do have a pretty good point there about the safety and convenience. Dynowheel it is

  • I'm sure when it comes time to have mine serviced I'll be annoyed but so far I've got into them.

  • Go for 12mm and get SON, I have the same combo

  • It looks like the 12mm SON combo is winning, a lot of decisions on the specs on my F+F is are about future proofing, I mean when am I going to be able to get another custom frame, right? Anyway, just looked at the carbon forks that I 'd want to swap, if I ever do, they all run 12mm...

@amey, how's the center lock doing on the hub? Just been warned off on the center lock system re durability. TBH, I have never owned a bike with disc brakes, so all is just theory and trying out friends' bikes... which is hardly the same...

  • 12mm flat mount is the road standard at the moment, Shimano has adapted it so it will stick/stay.

CL is the best, I have never had issues ever on 4 bikes !

  • Flat mount and post mount, didn't even know there are options! Thanks for mentioning it. I guess I would have to specify what I want for the frame to be built accordingly?

  • SON is about to bring out SON 28 12 mm center lock, they told me today...

  • I knew about the delux, but they are bring out a 12mm center lock version of the 28 model

Page 5 of the catalouge says they currently only do:

    http://www.nabendynamo.de/produkte/pdf/english/lieferprogramm_export_2018.pdf

    Delux 12mm / CL
    28 15mm / 6-bolt
    28 15mm X 110mm / 6 -bolt

So they are bringing out a 28 version of the model in your link.

As I said, 12mm is winning and depends on the rear hub (I have managed to bag myself a custom prototype), so I might now be looking at 12mm / 6-bolt, which SON also doens't do...

Should have gone to Evans and get a Specialized with 105 parts coupled with £1 a pop front and rear light... that's what everyong rides at work... ¯_(ツ)_/¯

  • Should have gone to Evans and get a Specialized with 105 parts coupled with £1 a pop front and rear light... that's what everyong rides at work... ¯(ツ)

The number of times I've thought that to myself after breaking yet another custom/expensive/hard-to-find/no-longer-made part...

I used to be all off the shelf. Life was easier.

  • But where is the fun, huh?

  • I prefer riding to working on bikes.

  • are you sure you're on the right forum?

  • It's always been this way. Same as me preferring Function > Form, opp. most people here.

I'm a salmon swimming against the flow in the river that is LFGSS.

London Form Gurus and Salmon Swimmers

  • I prefer riding to working on cool bikes.

    Fixed that for you! :-P

  • Hey, nominally "functional" bikes are cool now

  • Cool bikes are no longer cool if I have to work on them. Bikes can only ever be cool if they are 'finished' and 'working'. As soon as thoughts of allen keys spring to mind the bike is sent to the back of the room and a new favourite picked.

  • I was ahead of the curve (Curve :P).

  • Hence the S, lots of bikes!! :-)

  • I think the snow was not kind to my hub so I started looking around for complete wheels
    and found this:
    https://www.bike-discount.de/en/buy/shimano-custom-made-fw-28-alfine-dh-s501-with-dt-swiss-466d-disc-511569

can't really do much better for that price.

  • Factor in postage. Not major but still a bit of a sting.

Good deal though, shame its out of stock.

  • They didn't charge me any postage, not sure why.
    Was probably the last one

  • Not sure if anyone has one of these power booster kits but take note if so!
