My mate has just bought one, I don't think I can be friends with him anymore.

There's a good amount of metal frabrication in it, done nicely.
I can't hate things for just being different.
What was trying to be achieved other than idiosyncrasy?
Who cares, let them play. People have been reinventing and rediscovering since that safety bicycle took off.

High hobbyhorse, surely?
-

Well, a rocking horse could have inspired the shape for all I know. There are similarities.

Rocking horse anti-porn, I can feel a new thread coming on..... Nowhere near as nice as a proper one with a mane, tail, leather saddle and sick dapple grey fadez. The aerobar head could, however, give significant performance advantages.

I feel like its main inspiration is motorcycles, cafΓ© racers specifically. Looking at the tubes, they resemble exhaust headers. Front end definitely has similarities to a motorcycle.

Bollocks to that.
If it ain't triple triangle, chain drive and rim brakes, it aint right.

Seriously however ... it looks like an undergrad project, or a struggling product designer's first Kickstarter.
Bad design does not equal innovation or invention. The form is a (poor) pastiche of "vintage" cafe racers, featuring extremely poor mid-range parts for something trying to be oh-so-premium.
This is peak-poseur and can stay the fuck in anti.

I would put it on par with this dribble of design excrement;

OK I'm done.

Itβs a fail on so many levels, no ability to change reach or bar height for a starter.

No seat tube done right

Pretty sure there's no such thing, every attempt seems to be an abomination, none more so than that Yamaguchi. When the Kestrel KM40 Airfoil and C4 Joker are the least offensive members of a class, you know you're on a sticky wicket.

650b wide tyre gravel biking thing just jumped the shark

ride for a day in the woods on this thing and count the number of times you'll have to pick out sticks from between your fenders and tyres. that's the functional part. aesthetics: the paintjob is over the top, the fork mismatched, the lines of the horribly big wide fenders, the stem, it's all just anti for me.
what is GBP? I'll have a word with Gaston.
Maybe you can split it down the middle to save space when you're travelling
