Out of curiosity, where was is available for £250?
-
• #4528
Yeah I know, but so is this...
https://buy.garmin.com/en-GB/GB/p/134491
(and it's back to 450 on Wiggle)
-
• #4529
It could have been an error but it was available for a couple of days in both standard unit and bundles (and wouldn't be that far out of line considering Wiggle and CRC were 275 a while ago)

I see. Presume they've just left up the RRP to catch idiots buying direct?
-
• #4531
either that or they realised the original price reduction killed the sales of the 1030 stone dead (I've yet to see a review that doesn't point out that a heavily reduced 1000 might be a better option)

Thanks, shall keep a look out.

Set up an alert on pricespy.co.uk and that'll do the hard work of searching most of the main retailers for you.

The 1000 is a chunky old thing though, I don't think it would fit in my fleet of barfly 2.0 mounts.
It's a shame garmin has screwed up the 820 so much, as I do like the minimalist form factor of it. -
• #4535
It comes with its own Barfly style mount and it's thinner than the 800, you fattist.
-
• #4536
oh thats good. Need 3 though but I guess I don't have an alternative as the 800 refurbs are more expensive than the 1000's.
Does the 1030 bring anything noteworthy to the table ?

It's meant to be (more) waterproof. It's meant to have a screen that works in the rain. It has longer battery life. It will definitely have an entirely new host of problems.

Thanks for this, btw

Forgive me Father for I have sinned... and bought a 1030 :S
I didn't actually expect to end up with one but I took a drunken, speculative punt on this site last week... (I didn't want to post it up until it actually arrived with EU maps on)
... it arrived today and appears to be legit. At £396 that's obviously cheaper than a lot of places are selling the 1000 for. May be worth bearing in mind if, like me, you are balls deep in the Garmin world, refunded the Karoo, and can no longer wait for the ELEMNT 2.0 to appear (and have an 800 held together by duct tape)..

and if that site is too scary you can use the FEB75 discount code if you spend £500 (1030 + rim tape or something) at cycle republic to get it for £425. Unfortunately they removed the lezyne lights bundle ^^^^ shortly after i checked if the discount worked (it did). Usually Garmin are excluded from these type of offers..
Still eye-watering, but I suspect it won't get discounted below these levels for ages..

Nice find. Still not sure I wanna cough up more than my last two phones cost for a 1030 though.

I returned to my Edge 25 to find strange flashing concentric squares, rather like a Spectrum loading screen. I could navigate a little around some other screens with other empty squares on and some model and software text which didn't look like typical user information eg not in the normal font + size. I could not navigate out to the normal menus, although a restart sorted it. Any idea what this was? I think my 5YO had been mashing the keys.

If you don't care about fancy training features, the Touring is nice. Touring Plus for HRM support and sensor things.

Press 'PLAY' on your cassette recorder.

OK, here's a weird one, anybody have any ideas?
My eTrex 20, very well used now, won't power on from fully charged AAs like it used to. However it will turn on fine from USB cable.
I think it may be something like corrosion in the battery slot. can I take it anywhere to get repaired?
-
• #4547
Well clean the contacts first, with something like a fine grade sanding sponge, or wire wool if you are careful not to get bits in the workings
-
• #4548
Are any of the cheap Ali Express plastic out-front Garmin mounts ok? Or the lifeline thing from Wiggle? Or is k-edge the way to go?
My Barfly is overpriced junk.
