  • Prolly’s livelihood depends on pretty pictures. I’d carry an M10 with me too if people were going to pay me to write a blog

  • Dynamic range 👎

Honest question: how can you tell and why is it bad?

  • I m just trolling him

  • Yes, but what is it based on. I'm genuinely interested. My phone always does HDR by default and I didn't know there could be a downside to it?

  • It’s not really a bad thing. He means the range is bad. Like in the first photo, it was all shadowed so my phone exposed for that but blew out the bright sky. On a decent camera with better dynamic range you’d capture more detail in darker shadows and brighter highlights

  • IME If you look at the first shot, same shot, shot well on a good film (given the day a sharp ektar 100 although portra 160 is my fav now) would have more data/details in both dark and light where as with digital even with manipulated "HDR" there won't be. The more details/data you have the more you can interpret it if you need to.

  • What he said, film will do it better but there are a LOT of dependencies to get right.

  • I have had a 'moment' and am done with Leica, compact only

  • Dynamic range aside, was great again, enjoy throwing a fixie around the woods. Got into a great smash around the optional top loop with another rider on a proper track bike, nutter.

    @r_mash, the routes
    Day 1
    https://www.strava.com/routes/12657613
    Day 2
    https://www.strava.com/routes/12657643

  • If that was the main concern then i'd suggest a 5x4, not a Leica, poser!

*edit: that has already been covered.

  • Yellow gangsta? how the fuck anyone rode an actual track bike around that course I do not know, we skipped the optional top route and had macdonalds instead but heard it was the toughest bit.

  • I do 6x7 and 35mm thx

  • think that was someone else off here, orange Condor with 32c tyres and a disc brake, not exactly track and good fun on that terrain.

  • saw someone on a dolan. fuck that.

was camped next to condor guy his set up actually looked ok for the ride.

chapeau to the chap who joined us on day one in a mash works and absolutely beasted it

  • Think that’s @laner on the yellow gangsta

  • ha....hahahah....HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!

    LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!

Just because you're throwing 'data' in there, doesn't mean what you're saying is right dude.
People hype the 'magic' of film too much. Back in yonder days Porta was considered as throw away as any other.
Bad exposure is the same on film or digital. Bad exposure. Film will not do it better, it's the meat bag behind the viewfinder that does the work.
Under the enlarger is where the 'magic' happens. Even the masters spent days on a single shot pushing and pulling.

  • Yeah, IMO 32c was the lower limit, would have hated riding that route on my 28c.

  • 28c wasn’t an issue. Though perhaps I didn’t make it as far the gnarly bit. Exploding rear derailleur was.

  • Yeah maybe🤷🏾‍♂️

But the dynamic range is still poor :p

  • Yah brooklyn was me. I definitely suggest trying the route fixed, really good course for it, pretty much all rideable and a lot of fun.

  • Not arguing that, but who really cares?

Cameras aren't advanced enough to distinguish between that massive range. Also editing. Everyone edits. If someone says they don't edit they're full of shit.
Tell the late Mr Stock his darks are too dark and his highlights are blown out.

Anyway, back on topic, Digging the pics and ride @PhilDAS

  • Snapped some photos , did some editing, dynamic range was OK, put them on the gram for the likes.

  • This looks great, enjoyed the pics

  • Thinking of going this year. To anyone that went last year, is it good/fun/worth it?

  • Yeah was good fun. We rode down there from London so were a bit knackered and it absolutely hammered down with lightening on the Saturday night so that put a bit of a dampener on the evening entertainment but good spirits, good riding and cool camping with a big bunch of likeminded people.
Would have been sick to have a camper van as the field was a bog on the second day but that was just down to the weather
