  • That was a bit flippant on my part and that a few of the cheap fillers I have used recently https://www.toolstation.com/shop/p96113 say they can be used on wood. Also I am a big boy and can use big boy stuff ;)

There was a kit a while back that drilled a hole, pushed a pellet in and then used a 2 part filler to make good. The filler in that kit was body filler...

  • The kitchen saga continues. So after a month and a half of this:

Finally managed to collect the granite worktops, ripped out the kinda shitty and wrong-dimensioned ply unit the kitchen fitter put in, replaced it with (heavily modified) IKEA birch stuff, and got the worktops on. Had to disconnect and rewire an oven to dismantle the old hob unit - that whole side took me seven hours. Also had to re-shim the worktop on the other side to make sure the granite was flat and not resting on the sink. Why we bothered paying for a supposed professional to do this all in the first place, I do not know.

Still. Well happy now. Just finishing touches to go.

Had to re-drill all the holes to move the base of the units up to clear the skirting and pipework, move one of the legs, cut gaps for the rest of the gas piping with a holesaw, and remove the middle (left & right adjoining) beams at the top and affix the other sides directly to the uprights to drop the hob in. So much faff.

  • Looks ace. love the butcher's block/open section beneath the hob. Not usually a fan of granite but that's looking decent.

  • Thanks! I was also skeptical about the granite, really pleased with the result though.

It's great in a smol kitchen to have everything to hand without opening cupboards. Need to sort a replacement drawer for under the hob, the old one won't fit, had all of the knives and useful utensils/measures.

Still need to sort out making a proper 600x600 maple end grain block for that gap also. Have all of the wood but none of the motivation. Might have find a proper woodworker

  • Ha, we went the more industrial route, each shelf rated to 3000 lbs...

  • I want a full on professional kitchen, all stainless steel, all function and no frills... My gf isn't so keen... 😕

  • Yeah, it took some convincing, but she loves it now.
If you're a little handy (the best I can aspire to) it may help to offer up warm touches like DIY tables and the odd bit of wood countertop.
    Worked for me.

  • The transformation is almost complete. It's fun putting all the little bits and bobs up and seeing rearranging stuff. We even have a drawer dedicated to tupperware and takeaway containers.

  • That is some srs shelving.

  • Haha first I thought it's a real cat that just looks weird because of the panorama-photo-distortion..

  • Damp fixing in progress...

[Edit] Or not - pictures refusing to upload

  • I used to think it was a real cat practically every time I walked in the house for the first few months I lived with Kate!

    It's a tea cosy, btw

..well good thing you got rid of it, if it was freaking you out!

Whole place looks really tidy now, was indeed very cluttered.
White / grey theme is nice, way better than the old wood stuff!

    Oh you.

  • I'm sorry, just had to..

  • We've got a similar tea cosy. Much more realistic though...

  • This is great. When my kids are older....

  • "You're cutting that onion wrong" "That pan's too hot, you're burning the fish" "Useless human cooks"

  • More like "Who am I? Where am I? Why am I fluffy?"

    He's not the brightest..

  • "I'll push that off first, then that, then that."

  • "wood? worktops? fucking hell....."

  • Where can I acquire one of these ultra life like cat tea cosy's from? I have a grand vision of giving my my girlfriend momentary euphoria at the apparently gift of cat, only to feel the hollow sadness of it being just a mere empty vessel.
