Not having to rely on low tyre pressure for comfort and traction
-
• #3704
But lower pressures are a good thing. Much better to take out the buzz at first point available, the tyres. If it's low travel needs ie high frequency/low amplitude stuff like small stones at 18mph, suitable tyres can react far easier than the mass of a wheel and swingarm plus the stiction of suspension. 'UK gravel' is MTB terrain half the time anyway though...

Yeah I've been admiring that setup, there's a few alternatives available too.

But suspension doesn’t provide extra grip, the tyres does.
It’s avout getting the right pressure, not super low as much as you can.

so much no

Totally agree, but setting up the right bound/rebound on an 80mm fork is a pain in the arse. Aside from XC racers who have mechanics who do that, the average user of that bike is probably better off with a bike with high quality, well adjusted tyre pressure.
It was always a pain explaining Sag to customers to begin with, let alone fine tuning load/preload dependent on riding conditions.
Not disparaging the merits of suspension at all, just highlighting some of over reliance people put into it.@Nahguavkire Can't wait till it becomes more common and so cheaper. So many applications.

Wait, you mean folks don’t spend hours fine tuning their high speed compression damping circuits?

Not too pricey (<£400 if it exists...), 12mm axles front and rear, flat mount discs, ability to run a front mech, any thoughts? Frameset preferably or a cheap complete that I can chop and change.
I was pretty set on the Vitus Energie until I read it won't take a front mech.

If you open up to different axles there’s a lot though.

It will take a dropper post though, I was a bit skeptical about 1x at first and I don't miss the front mech at all.
-
• #3716
If Shimano made a 1x group I'd be there. Dropper post is less of a concern - never ran one on any of my mountain bikes.

A shouldering strap.
Maybe on the tarmac, but off road a lower pressure is much needed, especially on an MTB.
20psi made for slippery run in Swinley, even with full sus and 2.3 tyres.
