the good thing about a cotter-pin on a rat is that if the crank/axle interface fails mid-ride you can wallop the pin back in with a stone or likewise to get you where your going-I speak from experience.
Ideally it shouldn't fail in the first place mind.... -
For some of us it never really went away...
