Probably no more risky than radial lacing on that age of hub, never seen a broken flange on a Sheriff Star hub other than the well worn snap that circulates on the net. Seen more than two DA ones with cracked flange and plenty Normandy / Airlite / Small flange Campag with 28 plus holes. I think I will dig out the SS hubs from the parts bin and give them a polish !
Absolutely right. Radial lacing with even spoke tension on a non driven wheel would only be a problem with impact absorption over pot holes etc but as they are track wheels there is no issue. I have a road Pinarello Prologo with 650 radial front and non-drive side radial/ drive side x2 rear.
