Ooh, interesting. That's the stuff they put in American chocolate that makes it taste like vomit. Could definitely imagine that playing a role.

Yes,
there's a story that the 'first batch' of Hershey chocolate was an attempt to use,
rather throw away/feed to pigs,
some milk that had turned.
Resulted in that distinctive 'twang' of Hersheys that is such a shock to those raised on Cadbury's Dairy Milk. -

In previous days, the seats/carpets were never completely cleaned of butyric acid,
thus priming those more likely to be travel sick to vomit;

So maybe stain resistant treatments on airline seats/carpets made clean up easier?
