Wahoo Elemnt

  • Funnily enough, no. Stopped for lunch in Blonduos, but deffers no cliff diving. Didn't finish at nearly 600m asl at the end of the day either, as I distinctly remember a long fast downhill into Varmahalid.

  • Getting a black screen shortly after my element boots now. Need to hold power button on for 3+ seconds for it to come on and sometimes it just turns unit off.

  • Phoned Wahoo got through straight away, plug into PC and now seems to have resolved.

  • Got a Bolt for Chrimbo 😁🎅🏻 Thanks @cjr

  • Anyone got any suggestions for a cheap out-front mount? Was thinking that this might work if you can rotate the end bit. Anyone got any experience?

  • that does look like it can rotate. you might have to take a stanley knife to the plastic a bit too though. i bought one similar to this a while back;

  • Just had a play around with my girlfriend's Garmin mount & it does look like it'll work as it does allow turning it. That suggestion actually looks identical to the £15 official Garmin one she has, but half the price! I'll give it a shot, cheers.

  • no problem fellow wahooligan

  • Can't any garmin mount be modified to fit the wahoo? As above with a stanley knife (assuming you are allowed to hold sharp instruments)

  • It can, but if you can't rotate the mount insert then your Wahoo will be at 90 degrees to its intended orientation, which is quite annoying.

  • Use nail clippers to adapt Garmin mounts - I've done two mounts and they're perfect for the job (if the mount tab can be rotated 90* obviously).

  • I'm really really happy with my Elemnt Bolt

    :-)

  • Fwiw I've had that elevation issue with a garmin many many times, generally in foggy weather

  • Anyone found a mount for element which can double as a di2 junction box mount underneath ?

  • Anyone else finding their Elemnt's elevation tracking is way off? I regularly ride with a couple of mates, one with a Garmin 500 and the other with an Elemnt Bolt. They record roughly the same elevation (within 100ft for a 3000ft ride) whereas mine will be 1000ft less for the same ride. Nothing obvious stuck in the little holes underneath it, is that where the barometer is?

Also, no issues with GPS tracking (although I know it's more baro than GPS for altitude).

Got it from Wiggle so reckon I'll give them a shout, see if they can replace it.

  • Mine's usually pretty off when compared to the route I plotted on Strava. However, comparing the height it said the other weekend & the sign at the top of Holme Moss, it was only a metre off. Pretty odd.

  • just press elevation correction on strava.

  • Yeah I've been doing that recently, but I'd rather my expensive cycle computer wasn't faulty in some way, especially since I've read that the elevation correction isn't exactly perfect...

  • IME, Garmin and Wahoo can both be way out on elevation.

Strava corrected seems to be less variable but I have done no research, other than when I've ridden sportives, the strava corrected number is closer to the number published by the course organiser.

  • My experience has been that my elemnt is very different to my mates who've got wahoo and garmin computers. They're generally within 100ft of each other and are generally within 100ft of strava's corrected elevation. Just seems a shame to have an expensive thing that isn't working as designed.

  • Yes, I agree. The elevation on my Elemnt stopped working at all whilst I was riding in the south downs the other weekend. Then it forgot where I was.

I'd be more critical if my previous experience with Garmin was less bad.

  • just tried to "correct elevation data" on 4 strava rides with my elemnt. didnt change a single value

  • Takes a minute to process & update usually.

  • Anyone else finding their Elemnt's elevation tracking is way off?

Yep. Mine was originally fine but then it went wobbly in Iceland last year, I got it replaced and it was fine for a while, and now it's gone wobbly too. For example, the last day's riding in Tenerife. Up to the top, down the other side, back up to the top and back down to base (with a brief detour for a cake and coffee).

The upside-down W shaped one below (the first one) is the Strava elevation-corrected version which looks roughly right. The second one is the Elemnt data before being corrected, which is obviously total bollocks for the second part of the ride.
