Really good advice on the other points, but I’d just add to this. You do not and should not be thinking about the examiner. If there is a gap, go. Sod him, he’s a trained professional and if he can’t get out and catch up then it’s his fault.
So only think about yourself and you riding.

I was just forming the same sentence in my head. If you don’t take that gap because you’re waiting for one big enough for both of you, they could see it as hesitation. Safely follow to a T their last instruction. they know what theyre doing and will catch up with you.
