  • Midway through a cycle at the moment. Starting point was essentially nothing.
Have never 1RM anything- because I don't really understand the point.
    Anyways: (BW 69kg)
Tested out my squat yesterday: 8x3 on 100kg. (was pretty relaxed apart from stinger injury to shoulder- it was the end of shoulder/arms/core day)
Leg press machine suggests that I can lift a bit more.
Deadlift is 8x3 on 130kg- followed by 15 at 70% of that.
Chest is lagging a bit, but shoulder sometimes limits me first and my arms/back are progressing well.
Its actually been nice having the focus off the bike for a period of time.

  • Started reverse pyramids with weighted pulls. Finding it pretty good so far. Can't believe I had my weight belt under the bed for about a year. The gains are crazy.

    Going 10 x BW warm up. Then 3 x 8 @ 20kg, 3 x 8 @ 15kg, 3x 8 @ 10kg, then 8-10 at BW .

    BW is about 74kg.

  • Haven't LIFTED in a month. How much should I de-load?

  • However much you need to? One session to test where you're at before jumping in to a structured program is probably a good investment of time. Likely to be better than guessing and then wasting a session going substantially too heavy/too light.

  • Went training with my brother-in-law last week and after I did my working set for squats he asked me what my 1rm was. I said I’d never tested it and he broded me into giving it a go. Managed a decent form rep at 120kg and called it a day at that.

    Fixed that for you ;P

  • Is there a reason for 8 x 3 rather than 5x5 (or is that 8 lots of 3 reps?)

Theyre good numbers for coming straight back in

  • I just lift the things that people tell me to!
Its apparently something related to maximum strain on the muscle groups.
And Technically each session is a little more complex:
    I have an A/B pairing of A1, A2, B1, B2 which are 8x3 then roughly 70% for 1 round of 15 reps.
Then a C/D pairing of which its 3x12-15 reps. Hit 15 for 3 and weight goes up.

  • Back at it today, half an hour on upper-body focused compound lifts. Enjoyed it! Avoided squats as I'm riding tonight

  • Been coasting for about 18 months due to injuries and decided to "do something" yesterday.
    Did 95kg BP going for 100kg. #stoked

  • I feel very light headed after squats, to the extent that I had to have a sit down afterwards today, but sometimes I have to pause during a set and wait for my head to clear.

    How do I fix this?

  • Keep going. It’s normal.

  • Bro do you even?

    Ok.

  • I am just guessing, but my guess is:
A squat puts a huge increase in intra abdominal pressure, which in turn increases thoracic pressure. This causes a slight reduction in atria filling leading to a temporary reduction in cardiac output. This causes a temporary minor reduction in BP sensed at the carotid bulb.
This leads to the standard faint response, a increase in peripheral resistance and then you recover.

In other words, learn to change your breathing pattern to adjust it.
When I’m not on a phone I’ll think this through properly.

  • **closes G-suit page**

  • Do you take a big gulp of air before squatting?

  • Generally I twist my hands into the leather grips and bite down on the lump of wood I keep in the Thunder Room.

    Oh, wait

  • Are you in the Thunder Room now?
Do you lift in the TR?

  • I'm at work at the moment, and for clarity I do not work in the Thunder Room.

I also lift in a gym, not a lavatory - I was making an attempt at a joke.

  • I thought the thunder room sounded like an awesome club, with an anything goes policy towards health and safety and weightlifting.

I was hoping for a nomination.

  • Went to the gym for the first time in months.#dadlyfe
Opened stronglifts "we recommend you deload".
    Ok. By how much?
Back to the beginning? Fuck that.

My squat was only just at 70kg. Did 40. There was no delay in the doms. Ioms is a thing.

  • Went through a similar thing, except upper body. Been twice now since stopping for a while and it's horrendous. I had to pump up a tyre this morning and my chest felt like it would explode.

  • Damned if you do, double-damned if you don't.

  • Dunno, I just picked some stuff up and put it back down again. Muscles innit.
