Why did you mount the chainring "inside out"? Shouldn't those little teeth be facing the frame?

Looks like the lifters will hit the spider tabs if he mounts it with the lifters facing in. I'm guessing that's originally the middle ring of 3, so he has moved it from inside the spider to outside and had to flip it over to make it sit flat.

Exactly this.

• #119059
Right. Overlooked the fact you only ride one ring...

'beater'. ha! because it has 2 different wheels? too nice, and looking fast
-
• #119061
Thanks. But it's defo beater material. All the parts were either spares or cheap. Pedals from an old OTP, recovered saddle, donated wheel etc. The only new bits are the brake levers and cables.

Almost ready for my japanese trip.

You just need to flip your front wheel around, and you're done! ;)
(Actually the back rim is laced 'the wrong way', but that's not as easy to solve.)

Tell me more?
I am of the opinion that the H PLUS SON logo should be readable from the drive side, when looking down on the wheels (human perspective), like your front wheel:
Of course this is purely subjective and the rims work just as well the other way around.

• #119068
Yes of course... I should say that to my rim builder!!

Very nice, what route in Japan are you taking?
-
• #119070
you should in the first place look at the driving direction of your dynamo hub. ;-)

Few days in Tokyo, night train to Takamatsu, Shikoku (iya valley, Kochi, Shimanto valley) to Kyushu (Aso mount, Miyazaki, Kagoshima). Then Okinawa.
If somebody have recommendations for beautiful roads, nice people to meet, cool and weird places to see, I'm open !

Sounds like a great trip, also nice bike. How do you like the Gilles Berthoud saddle? I’m thinking of buying one
-
• #119073
Thanks! It was a second hand so I bought it because it was really cheap. I had an old Brooks before and everybody says Berthoud are stiffer so more painful than Brooks. But the first owner rode it a lot so it is really comfy (i'm not very demanding with saddle, though) and much more well-made.

Nice, me and my girlfriend are doing Yokohama to Hiroshima via Kyoto in May, think Takamatsu is one of our stop offs. In my experience of Japan you'll meet nice people and see cool and weird stuff everywhere you go. First time riding there though so i have no idea what the roads will be like!
