Hey, can I get some clarification, please?
So right now I'm running 1x7, no chain retention on the front whatsoever. I had one chain drop so far, but I didn't ride the beik that much yet. However I'm a careful guy, so I would like zero chain drops in the future.
Here's the current setup on the front:
Should I buy a narrow wide chainring? I have a 110 BCD 5 bolt Shimano Deore FC-MT60 crankset, I guess this is compatible with it. But will it work on a 7 speed system? Most of these NW rings are made for at least 9 speed chains, I know the difference is subtle but it's still there. I could buy a 9 speed chain, but would it work with my 7s rear casette?
I really don't want/cannot spend much ( on this. I guess I could fix the problem with installing a chain guard or simply a front derailleur, but it looks wank. Ideas?
Maybe, but at least one with full teeth. 7-speed chain should run OK on N/W rings, there's a good chance that 9-speed chain will run on your 7-speed sprockets but you'd have to check.
