Took my mass-produced aluminium for a shakedown spin today on 50 miles paved, 5 miles fine gravel. 40mm slick tires have plenty of clearance with fenders but I have to deflate the rear to squeeze it on or off due to distance between front edge of fender and upper jockey wheel. 40mm would be just fine without fenders.. I'll probably go down to 35ish when these tires wear out.
