You can always ask a LBS to retap the crank thread to ensure it's nice and clean for a small fees, check the pedals on other bike thought, new pedals can be stiff.
This would be a good way to ensure that you won't have issues with the pedals.
However, what I would do is copper slip and carefully screw in and out, if it screw in well the first couple of millmetres and look straight, you can keep going.
