• Has anyone had issues fitting 105 pedals to their Cannondale cranks?

I have a 2015 CAAD10 with Hollowgram Si cranks, and was running the bog standard R540 pedals on them since new. They were getting a bit beaten up so decided to get the 105 5800 crabon pedals as replacement, but I can't seem to get them on.

The few sets of junk spare pedals I have around all seem to go one fine, with a little bit of catching threads here and there, but the 105s won't go in more than about 2 mm before getting stuck.

Since they don't have a 15 mm nut, only an 8 mm hex slot, I don't want to force them on and end up unable to remove them at a later point.

Visually the threads in the crank arm look OK to me, but do they just wear down over time in such a way that a brand new pedal would cause issues?

  • Do the new pedals screw in to any other cranks without a fight?

  • You can always ask a LBS to retap the crank thread to ensure it's nice and clean for a small fees, check the pedals on other bike thought, new pedals can be stiff.

This would be a good way to ensure that you won't have issues with the pedals.

However, what I would do is copper slip and carefully screw in and out, if it screw in well the first couple of millmetres and look straight, you can keep going.
