Yep r685s, I got in touch with mantel who sent me a new set of rubber hoods under warranty, they echoed what I'd read online about Shimano changing the compound. Initially thought I'd have to dismantle the whole thing but just ended up using brute force to pull them on, been fine since. I think I ended up cutting the old ones off first, can't remember...

You definitely can get new hoods on without dismantling, but it does take some effort. I can't quite remember the technique I used, but remember sweating and swearing a bit. The new ones are a slightly different material that doesn't turn baggy, which is nice.
