You definitely can get new hoods on without dismantling, but it does take some effort. I can't quite remember the technique I used, but remember sweating and swearing a bit. The new ones are a slightly different material that doesn't turn baggy, which is nice.

Try cleaning everything in isopropyl alcohol to stop slippage -
The original ones that come with the levers are know to be loose. Replace with these ones which are a different compound, are tighter and have several knobs on the inside which secures it from rotating. In short they fit very nicely

Only thing is that you have to fit them from the handle bar side.

Just put R785 hydro brakes on my All City - all seems good but the hoods are really baggy. I understand that you can’t fit new ones without dismantling because the reservoirs make the levers so big. Anyone have any tips for shrinking hoods?
