  • iRide do distribute them, but only as a special order from a store. I’m getting some soon if you want in?

  • Ah that's probably why they show up as out of stock on the iride site.

Would be keen on some and some spare aero covers, but am in Bristol.

  • I would like a couple of sets of those actually.

We pretty regularly travel to the US through work so if they’re easier to get in the US we can get them posted to my office in Boston and Of of my colleagues will probably carry them back

  • @danb and @mcmyk

Let me know how many pairs you want. I'm going to put an order in via Sigma, don't mind posting them on.

@danb I can chuck in a couple pairs of aero covers gratis if you want. They are yellow mind. 2 surrounds?

  • Interesting. How much do they come out at?

  • That would be awesome - yellow covers perfect too. I am only after 1 set of the surrounds.

  • Certainly no more than RRP

  • Will speedplay pedals help with my hip (which sometimes becomes knee pains)? Is it float that I need? Currently on look keos. Had a bike fit but eventually the pain returned.

I need a solution that isn't: become better cyclist. Tho, maybe that is the only answer. sad face.

  • speedplays arent made of magic, you need revisit to the bike fitter.

  • Yeah this ^
Don’t notice that mine have that much more float than when I was on Keos.

  • Magic is more convenient.

    Aging is hard.

  • why did you switch?

I don't even think I know what 'float' means tbh

I just have this annoying sensation of wanting to rotate/wiggle foot around to ease hips.

  • Yeah the amount of side to side movement you can have without unclipping.

Reason for me was I pulled out of my Keos a couple of times when out of the saddle sprinting and also missed the clip in a handful of times which is a painful mistake to make when bottom and saddle collide rather violently.

Double sided entry, weight and float were my reasons for the switch

  • They’re also adjustable so you can limit the float in each direction. For example, I occasionally caught my inner ankle on my crank arms so just tightened the inner screw on the cleat and now it stops my foot turning in enough to catch the crank.
I do fully recommend speedplay but not necessarily to fix a fit problem

  • Yeah jammy did my fit but he's since left London. Might try the cleat fitting service at cadence.

  • Is there a list of Speedplay specific compatible shoes anywhere? Also is there any recommended CX type shoe that has tall enough moulds that when you're walking you're on the moulds rather than the cleat?

  • Potentially unrelated but I used to get pain in my hip and solved it by stretching. It was a pain that felt like it was right in the joint of the leg/pelvis but was caused by tight hip muscles on one side. Turns out years of sitting with one foot resting on a knee caused an imbalance.
Fixed it by doing this every other day for like 5 mins:

  • Mud and speedplays are not friends. Put your foot down once in mud and that’s it, you’re not clipping back in until you’ve cleaned out your cleats.

Unless you’re only after CX shoe for walking ability. But then because of aforementioned mud unfriendliness, there’s probably not many CX or mtb shoes that will take a speedplay cleat

  • Good shout, it does happen in one leg...need to up the stretching game.

Does make sense that weak hip could be trying to get my foot to move in order to use other muscles that could compensate.

Need to do more yoga in general.

  • Mind blown. Went for a run yesterday and my hip is killing me in the exact place you describe and I always sit with the other leg resting on my knee

  • Yeah it was more to find a pair of shoes that are a little bit more walking friendly with Speedplays.

100% correct on the knee stuff above too, I had terrible knee pain for years until I started going to a personal trainer who specialises in strength and conditioning for sports (he's also a lecturer in DKIT here in Ireland for body mechanics so he really knows his stuff) and he said the reason I had knee pain was actually causes by poor hip mobility.

The weirdest bit was when one day I was trying (and failing) to touch my toes during a session and he made me lie on my side while he dug his thumb into my jaw muscle to the point I was in tears. I then stood up and touched my toes with no difficulty whatsoever. Apparently there's some weird muscle memory correlation between tension in your jaw which your body relates to grimacing under pain which if you can release it will increase flexibility.

I'm probably not explaining this correctly but my mind was blown by the result.

  • Somebody is selling a new pair of their Syzr gravel cleat / pedal system on here which is supposed to feel like zeros but with MTB shoes.

Shit for MTB if you go by the reviews however. Good if you want a speedplay feel without walking on the cleat for gravel and touring type people.

  • I don't know for certain, but doubt anyone would make CX/MTB shoes that are natively Speedplay compatible.

The aero/walkable cleats are an improvement in that regard: you won't be going armpit over elbow at least.

Not that you have much of a choice, now they're the only ones they sell.

  • you guys forget about frogs! they're speedplay cleats tooo
