Disc brakes are dead

  • I know. It's harrowing.

Basically to run 650b on my prize Steamroller, there are very few front brake choices with enough reach.

Also, the Paul Racer is cool as fuck.

  • Foot jam.

  • by stealthing it

edit : nice fast bike !

  • You will need some kind of cable stop, Paul ones are great and work on all sized frames (esp small ones) but you can go cheap, Surly rear, Tektro (steerer) mounted one front or something.

Yes there is a QR mechanism, you just squeeze them with hands and 'release' the straddle.

Great brakes, you will love them. Make sure you get the measurements right. Benchmark it against the current calliper you have and the 650b rim surface will be 19mm below that.

  • How many bikes do you have?

    ftfy

  • Already longer stem :)

Trying bags out to see what I need to carry.

The bike rips! Disc brakes (on road bikes) have come a long way, it rides like a road bike with no layer of disc brakes and maybe I am comfortable to say we are at step one.

  • will provide pics of the bike behind on request

  • saw this in the flesh last night. impressed. made me consider having a bike that isn't steel.

  • Thanks for this. I'm going to use the Paul Funky Monkey cable stop. It's bling, but this bike is being compromised by time rather than cost. The frameset was free so I'm going to treat it to nice bits - basically stuff I've always fancied having but never have: Phil hubs, Sugino 75s or Campag Pista, Nitto stem and seat post, a fancy caliper brake, bullhorns and for the haters out there, a half link chain and a black denim charge spoon saddle. Yes, denim.

Since this is a bike built up from scratch I don't have existing brakes to measure against. But, there are other steamrollers out there with 650b and Paul Racers.

    Perfect! Pacenti Brevet or HED?

  • Pacenti Brevet 32h laced to Phil high flange double fixed. Sapim race spokes.

  • Shiny.

  • sounds great! I have a fixie I want to split and sell which has Sugino 75DD silver, let me know if you are keen.

  • That's lovely @amey. How many litres is the Apidura frame bag? Is this your new Audax bike?

  • Oooh. Might be interested in the Sugino. Are they shiny?

Veering toward Campag Pista right now, but as we who are here know all too well, things can ... evolve ... during a build.

  • How many litres is the Apidura frame bag?

Its the medium frame bag, fits SO well. Need to put bottle cages and check how they work. Worst case with frame bag set up I can use side entry cages.

Is this your new Audax bike?

Nope this is the 'road bike'. I will use it on the audaxes in good weather and fast airbnb touring.

  • fast airbnb touring.

  • uh .. phones should be replaced with credit cards no?

    also which movie?

  • I will use it on the audaxes in good weather and fast airbnb touring.

How many bikes do you have and what is the purpose of each one? No judgement, just curiosity

  • I do find it curious @amey . Maybe if I had a crazy day rate I'd be the same as you, but I have one bike that I'm very very happy with. I could maybe justify a lightweight road bike for the summer, but I am as of yet to buy into your '1 bike life is not possible' theory.

  • As much as I can have.

I will sell the Moots soon though as it is purely a turbo trainer bike now .. and wahoo kickr and get wattbike.

  • '1 bike life is not possible' theory

No theory, its very much possible. Its fun to have more bikes when there are no constraints no?

Having said that, all that will stop now, need £££ to do up the new place.
