Exactly, as long the person don't mind it being a little ugly without the chainguard, it work perfect.
@frankenbike chainline actually not an issues, as on a triple, the middle is the middle, so you can ride on the smallest sprocket and the biggest and still not worry about cross chaining.
Now, with the small 30t, you're never gonna go 30/11, as that not even enough to go fast, you're likely to use it for climbing a hard hill, as you can probably be able to climb a normal hill with 46/28t, this ratio is very similar to the old road-race combo of a 39/23t.
46/32 is almost a normal climbing gear (37GI, a 34/28 is 32GI).
Only downside? 46/11 spin out easily, but it's a gearing you use everyday, not for racing in a group.
Speaking of sub-compact has anyone tried an MTB double crankset with 44/28 or 46/30 on the road? It's basically 1x with ultra-bailout. I've never seen anyone do it, does the FD not work or are there no BBs available or is the Q factor wrong or what?
