Oh, nice. I'm cautious of the Middleburn cranks though, don't they snap and then you can't get them replaced any more?
Edit: also how's the chainline? I guess if it's "1× with granny" you want the big ring in the middle anyway?

Everything snaps if you look hard enough. There's an endless supply on eBay and the new owner should be getting back into production soon(?)
Would work with other mtb triples if you can find the rings you want. But Middleburns look nice and there's a good selection of rings. You just have to find the most appropriate derailleurs for your range and the jumps.
Ultra compact cranksets and spiders are less common, but are good. I'm using a Sugino OX601D, 46/30, with a Shimano CX70 mech.
Have this on Kate's tourer. Middleburn triple spider, 42/26, with an XT double mech. Seems to work pretty well.
