Did something very similar recently during a cross bike race, I suspect with a lot less power that he can produce. No evidence of motors there IMHO.

Completely legit. It's pissing down, he comes off the racing line, on a slight camber, whilst pedalling and the back wheel loses traction.

Another thing to add, the course at Lille has lots of sand sections, so all the riders are using tyres that cope well with sand, such as Challenge Dune's tread, and these don't handle muddy and slippery conditions well.
