True compact chainrings won't fit a 53/39 crank, in fact for Campag 39 is the smallest you can go, you could buy a smaller 'big ring' but it would need to be 135mm BCD, compact chainrings are usually 110mm... unless they are Ultra/PowerTorque when the 5th bolt behind the arm is not on the same diameter as the others so you have to buy 'specials' (or Campag). Or you could take a round file to the braze-on mount to eke out a bit more clearance?
