Some movements are louder than others, and some ping. They tend to be louder when they are running with good amplitude which can be a good sign. Smiths lever escarpments are loud.

On that topic...There was a Smiths in the charity shop for £22, I left it because I couldn't get any internet to check details. It wound and ticked. Pretty sure it was a square faced job but didn't know to look for 'Empire', or where it was made. It said 5 jewels so decided to pass just in case it was a cheapo.

I kind of like it as a quirk, so long as it is not a symptom of a fault. Certainly sounds like resonating/vibration.
