Talking of rust, noticed this today. Annoying. But the only bit on the car.

Need to repaint the whole car...

At a minimum

Well if you included all the scratches, that would be useful!

Anyone driven a Nissan Navara? My cousin just recommended them as a family car. I thought he was joking but after doing some reading it seems like the 2016 update made it a lot more comfy and economical to drive.

The same Nissan Navaras that routinely fold in half behind the cab due to chassis rot?
Get a Discovery instead.

I'm sure it could do a job but would it really be better than something like a kodiaq?
-
• #41834
Seen those images, scary stuff. From what I gather though those aren't rust treated which will make a huge difference. Not that it should be needed, but still
Will a disco do 40mpg?
also, discos are about £5-8k more here for same age an milage
-
• #41835
Much much cheaper, about £25k new here, so a 3 year old one should be £10-15k

I've got an Isuzu Rodeo
Plus points: Pulls horse trailer no bother, filthy dogs and horse kit can go in the truckbed, laughed at the snow
Negative points: Glacial slowness, handles like a pig, steering is dangerously vague, slight oil leak, fan belt squeaks, needed £700 of chassis welding to get through last MOT.
Conclusion: Don't get a double cab as a family car unless you really need the space and/or towing power

Which year though? Afaik the Navara got its rear suspension updated in 16 making it handle better and drive more comfortably. Apparently it’s heaps better than previous generations
I hear you on the slowness though, not sure about that point. The towing will be good though as I’m planning to buy 1.5 tonnes of boat this year or next

Mine is an 08 so has seen some service and yes I agree that later models are better. Don't expect it to be like a car though. Should be perfect for towing a boat though.

Depends on your price point. Newer 2.0SD4 is supposed to do 43mpg. My 2007 2.7 TDV6 does 30mpg consistently regardless of load. The newer you cab afford the better the consumption will be obvs.
They're supremely comfortable and pleasant to drive though.

And they sound fucking terrible.

Isn't that a vauxhall frontera from aboit 1993 in drag?
Saw a film the other day and thought I recognised the thing. They weren't good when launched in 93, defo didn't see many around past the 8 year mark, can't believe they sold it as late as that in the US! Feel like it has an Isuzu diesel engine though?
Edit, an you mean the pickup! Sorry was referring to this ugly little bugger

Volvo got back to me re the issue a page or two ago. Faulty diesel injector causing the engine to semi-stall and the traction control system to freak out (wtf do they have in common??) which explains the many different warning messages that lit up at the same time. £600-ish to fix apparently. The mechanic explained in a very thick rural accent how all the modern environmentally friendly diesels are crap and that things were better in the good ol' days...

Moral of the story, don't go skiing.
-
• #41844
What is the fault?
-
• #41845
How do you mean? Idk what was wrong with the injector exactly but from googling I gather they can gum up.
-
• #41846
Just being nosey.

Missus used to work for Bonhams and nabbed me a few of the car catalogues while she was there. Moving house means massive clearout is imminent. Anyone want these before they go in a bin?

8 hour shift on the Subaru tonight, engine all in and ready to fire up....... what's that fuel smell...... oh it's a cracked rigid fuel pipe under the intake manifold.......
Fuck.
Will be removing a lot of gubbins to sort that.
Tgis might be known as vw "slow down shudder"
If you disconnect some abs sensors (enough to loose the road speed) and it stops doing it then it's that.
My theory on sds is it's something that was destined for automatic cars to do something as they slow to a stop (does it most at 12-1mph range), which even when you have a manual the ecu is trying to do something.
Have a 2009 polo bluemotion that has ecu problems, think it was "fixed" by previous owner at a vw garage. As now we cannot accept ecu/rom, it's almost totally unresponsive to most obd gear including a £4K snap on machine and a legit live linked vw odis machine. Very annoy. Still does 70mpg though
